In the Netherlands, for the first time in the history of the Miss Universe beauty contest, a transgender woman – 22-year-old Rikki Valerie Kolle – became the winner. The girl will take part in the Miss Universe contest in December this year in El Salvador, Sky News reports. 22-year-old Rikki Valerie Kolle was born a boy in the south of the Netherlands. At birth, the parents named the son Brady. During her speech at the competition, the girl said that she aspires to become a “voice and a role model”, noting that thanks to her dedication, she wants to “make changes in society regarding transgender people”. “When I was little Ricky, and even when I became transgender, it was not easy for me and my environment. I know better than anyone how it feels to be alone and not surrounded by only positive thoughts,” said Ricky. According to the jury, the girl won them over with her “iron and strong story” and “clear mission”. The girl became the second openly transgender participant in the beauty pageant after Spanish model Angela Ponce in 2018. We will remind, for the first time in India, a transgender couple became biological parents. Read also: Respect for diversity: What it’s like to be a transgender girl
