In the Netherlands, an early painting by Vincent van Gogh “Head of a Peasant Woman” was sold at the annual Tefaf art and antiques fair.

The new owner paid 4.5 million euros for her, the Dutch media reported NOS and L1 Nieuws.

The portrait is painted in oil on a canvas measuring 63 by 48 centimeters. The probable time of its creation is 1884, when Van Gogh lived in the Dutch city of Nynen. At the same time, he also painted the world-famous painting “Potato Eaters”.

The portrait “Head of a Peasant Woman” was put up for sale by the American gallery MS Rau. According to its representatives, the new owner of the painting is the owner of a private museum outside Europe.

It is not known what kind of museum it is. However, it is expected that it will definitely be opened to the general public.

Tefaf is one of the most important art fairs. More than 270 gallerists and antique dealers from 22 countries of the world participate in it.

We will remind, in 2021, Van Gogh’s early work “Wheatstacks” exhibited at Christie’s auction. It was estimated at about 30 million dollars.
