The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported that it had sent Amazon, the country’s largest online store, a warning letter regarding the sale on the platform of 7 unauthorized eye drops.

In a Nov. 13 letter, the FDA said Amazon is selling eye drops that have not been found to be safe and effective for temporarily relieving the symptoms of eye inflammation. It is about excessive watery discharge, redness, burning, etc.
In September 2023, the FDA barred 8 companies, including pharmaceutical giants CVS Health ( CVS.N ) and Walgreens Boots Alliance ( WBA.O ), from making or selling certain unapproved eye products.

The agency previously asked the privately held Swiss drugmaker Similasan to adhere to appropriate limits on the levels of diethylene glycol or ethylene glycol in the drug, two common contaminants in some drugs because they can lead to fatal poisoning in overdoses.
It will be recalled that earlier the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned against the use of eye drops produced in India, which were linked to infections, blindness and even death of the patient.
