Authorities in the state of Colorado (USA) have issued an arrest warrant for the former owner of a funeral home, who, according to them, kept the body of a dead woman for two years.

In his house, the police also found the cremated remains of at least 30 people, writes The Guardian.

The terrible revelation happened on February 6, when 33-year-old Miles Harfor was evicted from the house he rented by a court order.

The cremation service, which was owned by a man, closed in September 2022.

Harford appears to have encountered financial difficulties in his business. Sometimes he could not complete the cremation to release the remains to the families“, said Matt Clark, Denver Police Chief.

According to him, Harford often gave family members the ashes of another person instead of the ashes of their loved ones.

Temporary urns were also found in the basement of the house, the role of which was performed by plastic boxes from under shoes. The remains found belong to people who died between 2012 and 2021.

Other urns were found in a truck parked on the street, and another part was found in a hearse, where investigators also found a woman’s body covered with blankets. Harford reported that she died in August 2022.

As Clark noted, the man admitted he owed money to several crematoriums, and because of the debt he was unable to cremate the body of the 63-year-old woman, so he decided to keep her body in a hearse. The family of the deceased told the investigators that they were allegedly given her ashes.

Investigators are now collecting statements from other families.

According to prosecutors, Harford will be charged with abuse of the bodies of the dead, forgery of death certificates and theft of cremation money. Other charges may be added. The investigation is ongoing.

We will remind, in Colorado, a couple of owners of a funeral home are on trial, who kept 190 bodies of the dead in terrible conditions, and lied to relatives about cremation.
