In the Zhytomyr region, a 39-year-old man desecrated a soldier’s grave. He explained his actions with jealousy: they say that his ex-wife left him and started a new relationship with this military man.

The 62-year-old mother of the deceased contacted the police. She reported that unknown persons damaged the grave of the Ukrainian defender. The investigative team that went to the scene found that a wooden tombstone, a metal cross, a frame with a photo of the deceased and flagpoles on which flags were attached were damaged.
Funeral paraphernalia was also haphazardly scattered on the territory of the cemetery.
“During the investigation, the police found out that on the evening of March 22, a 39-year-old resident of the same community came to the cemetery and desecrated a soldier’s grave.
He explained his actions with jealousy: they say that his ex-wife left him and started a new relationship with a military man. The fact that the man died did not curb his anger, and the suspect thus decided to take revenge.” – say the law enforcement officers.
The police are conducting a pre-trial investigation of the case, which is qualified under Part 2 of Article 297 (insulting a grave) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
If the man’s guilt is proven, he may face restriction of freedom for a period of three to five years or imprisonment for the same period.
