In Kyiv, the police took away a 5-month-old child from his mother, who was on the street at night in a state of alcohol intoxication. The boy was hungry and was in the cold in light clothes, Kyiv police reports. Regarding the 31-year-old mother, an administrative protocol was drawn up for drinking alcoholic beverages and failure to fulfill parental duties. Now it will be handled by social services together with juvenile police officers. “Now the child is in the hospital, the mother is still talking to the social services. They don’t plan to give it up yet, because the conditions need to be checked. The woman lives in Kyiv, came to visit her relatives, and that’s how it turned out. Maybe it’s temporary, maybe not. The child was removed, she immediately were taken away by the doctors,” said Anna Strashok, spokeswoman of the Podilsk Police Department of Kyiv. Employees of the anti-domestic violence sector of the Podil police department learned about the situation a few days ago, when they received a report about a family quarrel in an apartment on Mezhova Street. Near the house, they saw a 31-year-old woman from Kyiv and her acquaintance, who were outside in a drunken state. Next to them was a pram with a baby. The woman told the police that she had come to visit her relatives and had an argument with them over the use of alcoholic beverages, which led to her going out into the street. “At the same time, the woman from Kyiv reported that she did not want to take care of her 5-month-old son and wanted to leave him. The boy was crying loudly – despite the cold outside, he was wearing light clothes, the woman also reported that the last time she fed him was at lunchtime.” , the police say. Since the child’s life and health were in danger, the law enforcement officers took the child away from the mother, calmed her down and kept her warm in the service car. Colleagues from juvenile prevention and doctors were also called to the scene, who later hospitalized the boy. Regarding the mother, the inspectors compiled materials under two articles of the Code of Ukraine on administrative offenses – under Part 1 of Art. 178 (Drinking alcoholic beverages) and Part 1 of Art. 184 (Failure to fulfill parental duties). The woman received a warning for drinking alcohol. And the court will decide on punishment for negligence. In the future, social services will deal with this family.
