In Great Britain, a dinosaur-like creature was discovered – an alligator turtle, which comes from the swamps and rivers of the southern regions of the United States. She was rescued in the shallows of a small lake near Ulverston.

Denise Chamberlain, who keeps the turtles, instantly recognized this predatory species. She called various animal rescue agencies, but after receiving no help, she decided to save the turtle herself.
The woman filled a plastic container with water, put on protective gloves and entered the water up to her calves. The turtle, she said, was “angry” and looked like a “small prehistoric dinosaur.”

As the woman approached, the animal opened its mouth, revealing its strong beak-like jaw. Already at home, she fed the animal with raw chicken and took it to the vets.
According to their estimates, the turtle is about five to six years old. They couldn’t tell if it was a male or a female.
Veterinarians will transport the alligator snapping turtle to a specialized reptile center, where it will be placed in warmer water to speed up its metabolism.
According to Chamberlain, such turtles can grow up to about 80 centimeters in length and live up to 70 years. The alligator snapping turtle is an invasive species that has a negative impact on the local ecology.
“They grow up to about 14 kilograms. Probably, the owner threw the turtle in the garbage, because he could not take care of it“, said Chamberlain.
Wildlife experts said the turtles are not native to California and keeping them without a permit is prohibited. However, many people take them when they are young, disregarding the law. And when they start to become too big or aggressive, animals are released into the water.
