Theater expert Maya Garbuzyuk was born on May 6, 1965 in Lviv. In 1991, she graduated from the Kyiv State Institute of Theater and Film Arts named after Karpenka-Karyo, majoring in Theater Studies, and later postgraduate studies at the same university. In 2007, she defended her PhD thesis on “Stage readings of the tragedy “Hamlet” by V. Shakespeare in Lviv theaters (1796-1997)”. After graduating from the institute, she worked for ten years as the editor of the literary section of the Lviv Academic Theater named after M. Zankovetska Worked at the Department of Theater Studies and Acting at Lviv University since its creation in 1999. Garbuzyuk is the author of more than 200 publications on the history, theory and practice of modern theater. She was a member of the National Union of Theater Actors of Ukraine, a member and head of numerous theater festivals in Ukraine, one of the theater experts of the British Council in Ukraine. Garbuzyuk researched how Ukrainian theaters stage Shakespeare and helped the Frankiv Drama Theater prepare the Shakespeare Festival.
