More than 140 cats were left to die of their own accord in the desert of Abu Dhabi

Residents of the United Arab Emirates found more than 140 cats, which were thrown out to die in a desert parking lot in Abu Dhabi.

Local rescue volunteer Chick Shergill was involved in rescuing animals. According to him, cats of various breeds, even Persians, were left trapped in their cages. Some wandered the desert without food, shelter or water.
The animals were abandoned by the highway near the Abu Dhabi State Animal Shelter in the residential area of Al Falah. They allegedly did not know about the incident there.

50 dead cats were counted on the territory of the shelter. Since the end of September, 95 have been rescued. A retriever dog also died and a dead husky was found.
In September, the temperature in Abu Dhabi reaches 40.5°C, and it can be higher during the day in the desert. The event has already caused criticism from activists and animal rights activists.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) offered a $5,000 reward for information on who dumped the cats in the desert, and Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport said it had launched an investigation.
Shergill added that the team of volunteers continues to rescue the animals, chip them and find them homes.
