A modern Ukrainian philosopher became the head of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation (UKF). Natalia Kryvda.

This was reported by T. v. at. Minister of Culture Rostislav Karandeev during a meeting at Ukrinform.

Kryvda was chosen among three candidates who were submitted for consideration by the MKIP on March 4 by the newly elected Supervisory Board of the UKF.

“Ms. Nataliya Kryvda is the head of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation from today. That is the beautiful, pompous and responsible name of her position. She is not just the head of the Supervisory Board, the moderator of the processes that will take place inside the Ukrainian Cultural Fund, but she will also represent the Ukrainian Cultural Fund, determine the policy of the Ukrainian Cultural Fund in accordance with the legislation and be accountable to society for those democratic, transparent processes that, I am convinced, will take place under her leadership“, Karandeev noted.

Natalia Kryvda – Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Philosophy and Culture of Shevchenko Kyiv University. He specializes in the topics of cultural history, the history of mythology, problems of identity and cultural memory. She holds the position of academic director of the MBA program at the Edinburgh Business School.

Since 2014, she has been working as a volunteer as the chief expert of the “Culture” group of the Reanimation package of reforms. Since 2018, she has participated in the work of the UKF as an expert, evaluating projects in various programs and sectors of the fund.

“Three things are very important to me. The first is the subjectivity of the UKF. We have to become a subject, an active player in the field of cultural policy. Trust is the second. Trust within, rebuilding trust, rebuilding reputation. It is much more difficult to go back to it, but I am sure that there is an institutional memory. And, of course, the reputation outside. Culture is not just important in times of war, culture is what our defenders are fighting for at the front“, Kryvda noted.

About the new Supervisory Board of the UKF

On February 8, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy approved the new composition of the Supervisory Board of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.

The renewal of the Supervisory Board was preceded by a scandal: the previous composition of the Supervisory Board was formed at the end of 2020, but already in May 2021, cultural figures accused the Supervisory Board of the UKF of manual management and demanded from Volodymyr Zelensky to dissolve the Supervisory Board of the UKF and cancel its decision.

The controversial Supervisory Board worked until the end of its term of office – until the end of 2023.

And already in January 2024, the online rating voting started for four candidates from cultural institutions and public associations to the Supervisory Board of the UCF.
