The Ministry of Justice shared a selection of names that were most often given to babies in Ukraine in the first half of 2023. The most popular of them were published on the department’s social networks. In particular, the most popular names in state birth registration were: Anastasia, Victoria, Darina, Eva, Zlata, Kateryna, Myroslava, Maria, Sofia, Solomiya; Andriy, Bohdan, Volodymyr, Vasyl, Danylo, Ivan, Matvii, Mykola, Oleksandr, Yaroslav. If the child’s mother is NOT married and there is no voluntary acknowledgment of paternity, the mother herself determines the name for the child. A child can be given no more than 2 names, unless otherwise follows from the custom of the national minority to which the mother and (or) father belong. A dispute between parents regarding a child’s name can be resolved by a guardianship authority or a court. We will remind you that in 2022, the names Sofia, Maria, Mark and Artem entered the “top”. At the same time, Ukrainians gave children rarely used and “victorious” names, such as Kiy, Stefania, Javelina, Mriya.
