“Okhmatdyt” will not be built: how will the hospitals destroyed by the Russian Federation be restored in Ukraine

The reconstruction of health care facilities that were destroyed or damaged as a result of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation will take place in accordance with the needs of each individual region. The order of reconstruction of institutions will be determined according to the capacity of the network, Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko said at a meeting with journalists on May 8, the correspondent of “UP. Life” reports. According to the minister, the plan to restore the industry is included in the ministry’s strategy for the coming years. “We will rebuild taking into account the location of the hospital according to the available network. We will not build a potential Okhmatdyt on the site of a destroyed children’s department in some district of Chernihiv, Sumy or Kharkiv regions,” Viktor Lyashko said. The Ministry of Health also plans to purchase medical equipment for the treatment of oncology patients this year. “Strokes and heart attacks are priorities for us, there were a lot of them, and with the beginning of the war, they are getting younger and there will be even more of them. Also, the issue of oncology – COVID-19 and the war reduced early detection and diagnosis – people turn to preventive examinations less often. We understand that now we will detect oncology more and at later stages,” said the head of the Ministry of Health. It will be recalled that Viktor Lyashko called on doctors to treat patients according to approved protocols, and heads of medical institutions to install and effectively use new equipment in a timely manner.
