One of the oldest and most respected philharmonic societies in Europe – the Berlin Philharmonic – becomes the official patron of two Ukrainian orchestras: the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine. Director of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra Oleksandr Zaitsev noted that after the start of the full-scale war, the orchestra became an active player in international cultural diplomacy and represents Ukrainian music in the most famous concert halls of Europe. “We believe that the main thesis that sounds at our concerts – “Peace will win the war” – will soon become a reality and, strengthened by the position of our Berlin colleagues, we will make every effort to achieve this,” said Zaitsev. And the founder and chief conductor of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine/YsOU Oksana Lyniv added that the support of the Berlin Philharmonic is important and symbolic. “It is very symbolic, as a strong sign of solidarity with Ukraine, and also offers many powerful prospects for close cooperation and exchange. Especially for young Ukrainian musicians, such a symbolic cooperation adds inspiration, faith in the future and motivation for further development,” Lyniv said. Kyiv Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1979. His repertoire includes music from the 16th century to the youngest generation of composers today. The orchestra performed in the most important halls of Europe, such as the Berliner Philharmonie, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Cité de la musique in Paris and the Warsaw Philharmonic, as well as before the leaders of the NATO countries at the summit in Madrid on June 29, 2022. The collective unites young musicians aged 12-22 from all over the country.
