Parents were still against it, because the tense situation in the family continued. Then they turned to the Supreme Court with a demand to cancel this decision. The Supreme Court ruled that the interests of children should prevail over the interests of grandparents. So unwanted relationships cannot be imposed, especially if children are able to recognize good and bad for themselves and have reached the age of 12. In Italian law, there is a document that gives the child the right to maintain a relationship with the father’s or mother’s parents if the couple separates. This law was adopted in 2006. Grandparents also have the right to go to court to determine whether a parent’s decision to deny them access to their grandchildren harms the child’s well-being.
