Returned to the front with a prosthesis: the story of a 20-year-old defender who lost a leg in the war – News

20-year-old military man Yehor Oliynyk has been fighting on a prosthesis for over a year. The fighter lost his leg in the first year of the full-scale invasion.

“His positivity and sense of humor can only be envied,” they say about the defender at the Nezlamni rehabilitation center.

Yehor joined the army as soon as he came of age. And within a few weeks, a full-scale invasion began.

In September 2022, Yehor was blown up by a landmine in Donetsk region, and at the end of the same year he confidently walked on a prosthesis and later returned to the front.

The fighter still defends Ukraine: he performs combat missions and goes on assaults.

“On February 24, two years ago, it started for me at the training ground. A combatant “flew” to us and said: “War! Hurry up with the cars!”

We went to Brovary. For a long time I could not believe that the war had begun, until I saw the Russians and we started shooting.”– says the defender.

He adds: with the war, he realized that it is necessary to appreciate life, “because it passes very quickly and imperceptibly.”

“I realized that there is no need to quarrel with parents and friends, because perhaps there will be no opportunity to see each other and reconcile“, he says.

The boy talks about life with a prosthesis with a smile:

“I was mobile before the injury, but now I’m a little slow, but it’s normal. First, it is not cold. Secondly, saving socks. And if the leg gets wet, it’s okay. It doesn’t get cold – that’s also a plus“.
