According to him, one of the two sarcophagi is decorated with images of grapes, and the other with dolphins. “This is unprecedented. It deepens Palestinian roots and shows that they go back thousands of years,” said Jamal Abu Reida, director general of Gaza’s Ministry of Antiquities. The cemetery was discovered in February 2022 during construction work. After that, archaeological work began on the site, which had to be stopped due to lack of funding.
