In Ukraine, scooter riders have started to be prosecuted for violating traffic rules. This is reported by Opendatabot. From 2023, drivers of electric scooters are full participants in road traffic. However, the state has not yet established special rules for them. According to Opentatabot, since 2018, the number of cases against scooters has reached 80. “Over the past four years, at least four drivers of electric scooters have been brought to criminal liability for violating the rules in force on transport (Article 291 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). In all cases, the perpetrators of the accidents were punished with fines or imprisonment for up to 2 years with a “conditional” term,” Opendabot reported. In April 2022, a minor from Vinnytsia on a rented scooter hit a woman who was crossing the bicycle path and sidewalk. For bodily injuries of moderate severity, the perpetrator was sentenced to 1 year of probation, compensation for the treatment of the victim (about 108,000 hryvnias) and a fine for moral damage (50,000 hryvnias). However, mostly scooterists are brought to administrative responsibility. For violation of traffic rules and damage to vehicles or other property, they pay a fine of 850 hryvnias (Article 124 of the Criminal Procedure Code). It is not uncommon for road accidents to be caused by underage scooter riders. In April 2023, a teenager was hit by a car standing on a pedestrian crossing in Kyiv. Considering her young age, she limited herself to a warning. We will remind, in the spring of 2023, scooterists were equated with drivers. They are prohibited from driving on footpaths and sidewalks.
