In Turkey, ancient Roman cosmetics were found, including eye shadows and blushes, as well as various types of hair accessories and jewelry.
Archaeologists have found makeup pigments in 10 different shades, but red and pink colors predominated.
The 2,000-year-old artifacts were found during excavations in the ancient Roman city of Aizanoi in the Turkish province of Kutahya, Anadolu and Arkeonews reported.
Aizanoi is one of the most remarkable cities of the Roman period with a temple of Zeus, a stadium-theater complex and a covered market where, in particular, cosmetics in oyster shells were sold.

The researcher said that the team discovered the remains of a cosmetics and jewelry store during excavations in the market of the ancient city.

“We found out that perfumes, jewelry and cosmetics were sold in the store.
We know that the ancient Romans kept their eyeshadows and blushes in oyster shells, and we found numerous oyster shells in the shops we excavated.”– said Koshkun.
During the excavations, the team noticed a variety of inscriptions that give insight into the establishment and functioning of the ancient shops.
