Stole funds for the Armed Forces: a man who robbed two churches was sentenced in the Lviv region

An unemployed man from Lviv without an actual place of residence and previously convicted was deprived of liberty for 5 years for robbing two churches in Drohobych.
This is reported by Zaxid.net with reference to the court decision.
The pre-trial investigation established that on the afternoon of July 8, 2023, a man broke a window and entered the premises of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church “Saints Volodymyr and Olga”.
The intruder stole UAH 2,950 from the chest for donations to the Armed Forces and stole 4 keys from the closet of the office of the church. The man put the stolen thing in his pocket and went out the door, which he opened from the inside.
On August 5, the man entered this church again. He opened the main door of the temple with one of the previously stolen keys and again stole the money that was being collected for the army. This time he took possession of a smaller amount, namely 1,520 hryvnias.

The next day, the thief climbed into the window of the office of another church – the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Sambir-Drohobytsk Diocese of the UGCC. The man stole UAH 43,000 from a bag lying in the chair, and then opened the bedside table, where he found UAH 4,200, and also took them.
Then the intruder saw a wallet on the office table, from which he stole 125,000 UAH, 100 US dollars, 300 euros and 720 Polish zlotys. In general, the damages to the victims amounted to almost UAH 200,000.
He hid the stolen item in his bag and left the room through the window.
As previously reported, a thief broke into the temple during the service and stole a significant amount of donations. The priest of the temple filed a complaint with the police.
After studying the video from the video surveillance cameras, the law enforcement officers established that a 22-year-old resident of the district center, who had previously been criminally charged for theft and robbery, was involved in the theft from the church.
During the trial, the accused confirmed the commission of the crime and told about its circumstances. He sincerely repented of the crime committed, admitted his guilt and asked not to be severely punished.
The court sentenced the perpetrator to 5 years of imprisonment. The defendant was also charged the cost of conducting examinations in the amount of UAH 8,126 in favor of the state.
