Stuck in garbage: in South Africa, vacationers freed seal pups from a fishing rod

Three seal pups that were entangled in a fishing net were rescued by passers-by on a beach in South Africa. The incident happened on September 10 on the territory of the West Coast National Park, the BBC reports. Private tour guide Guy Gaffney and filmmaker James Suter filmed the release of the animals and posted it on Instagram. “We were in the West Coast National Park in South Africa. Luckily we managed to rescue three seals that got entangled in the net. You can only see two of them in this video – so thankful we did it. It was a very tangible reminder about how important it is to be educated and clean up our beaches and work to keep our oceans free of plastic and things like that,” said James Suter. In a few minutes, they happily rushed to the ocean. It will be recalled that in November 2022, scientists from California calculated that blue whales, which feed on krill, can eat about 10 million pieces of microplastic every day. And in 2019, plastic was found in the stomachs of more than 100 examined turtles. Read also: “Weddell’s rides”: polar explorers showed the fun of seals. VIDEO
