Legendary French actress Catherine Deneuve read a French translation of a Ukrainian poetry collection for an audiobook.

“You can already tell. Catherine Deneuve voiced “Apricots of Donbas”, and our audio book with her is now available in bookstores in France, as well as on all French audio platforms. You will also hear my voice there, because I read the titles and five or six more poems for the book , in Ukrainian”, written by Yakymchuk.

You can already listen to one of the poems in the collection on the publisher’s website “How to compose a woman”, which was read together by Katrin Denov and Lyuba Yakymchuk.

The paper version of the collection “Apricots of Donbas” in French translation was published last year.

As the poet said, “Les éditions des femmes” has been marching every Saturday in support of Ukraine for two years now, and will also donate good sums for our victory.

About the collection “Apricots of Donbass”

The poems included in the collection “Apricots of Donbas” were written by Lyuba Yakymchuk in 2014, after the Russian occupation of eastern Ukraine. In Ukrainian, the collection was published by Stary Lev Publishing House in 2015.

The creation of the French edition of the collection began in 2022, when Lyuba Yakymchuk was contacted by a French copyright trading agency.

Two publishing houses competed for the rights to the French translation of the book – a large online publishing house and a smaller one with a long history.

The agent and all the cultural managers with whom I consulted recommended a smaller publishing house – Editions des Femmes. It was the right choice, because the publishing house paid a lot of attention to the promotion of the book. For example, I am currently on a three-week literary tour of France, and the book, as they say here, has made good press – it’s television, radio and newspapers“, the author said then in a comment for UP.
