In Moscow, the Bolshoi Theater canceled the ballet “The Hero of Our Time” directed by Kirill Serebrennikov.

The ballet was supposed to be shown on the New Stage of the theater on May 5, 6 and 7, but as a result, performances of “The Master and Margarita” directed by Edward Klug will be shown on these dates. The Bolshoi Theater does not inform about the reasons for the replacement.

“Schizophrenia, as it was said,” wrote Serebrennikov in a telegram, commenting on the report about the cancellation of the production.

The ballet “The Hero of our Time” is a 2016 “Golden Mask” laureate. The premiere took place on July 22, 2015 at the Bolshoi Theater.

On March 28, 2022, a court in Moscow revoked Serebrennikov’s probation in the “Seventh Studio” case and cleared his criminal record. The next day, the director left Russia for France. Later, in an interview with Euronews, Serebrennikov, commenting on the mood of Russians regarding the war, said that many of them had become victims of “many years of terrible propaganda” and called Russia’s attack on Ukraine a “terrible invasion.”

Last May, the Bolshoi Theater canceled Serebrennikov’s ballet “Nureev”, and in November, the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater removed the director’s name from the section “Authors of plays” on the theater’s website and from the program for his production “The Forest”.
