The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine failed to adopt draft law No. 8228-1 on the national multi-subject test in 2023 as a whole. Currently, the document was adopted only in the first reading with abbreviated preparation for the second, the website of the parliament says. According to Serhiy Babak, head of the education committee of the Verkhovna Rada, the final approval of the document was blocked by the “European Solidarity” faction, which insisted on the inclusion of history in the list of mandatory subjects. “They said from the podium that they want to hold the NMT as last year. We insist that one subject be chosen, which of course includes the history of Ukraine,” Babak said in Telegram. However, the format of the test was finalized in 2023, giving graduates a choice – which of the subjects to take third.
