Film “Grey Bees” Ukrainian director Dmytro Moiseyev was selected for the competition program of the 53rd Rotterdam International Film Festival.

The international premiere of the film based on the novel of the same name by writer Andrii Kurkov will take place in Rotterdam, the Ukrainian Film Academy reported.
The film will be presented in the main competition of the festival – Tiger competition.
The tape “Grey Bees” tells about two inhabitants of the “gray zone” in the east of Ukraine – a small village around which war is raging. Two retired neighbors lead a modest life, forced to meet occasionally for the necessary communication. Trying to ignore the events of the war and the difficulties they bring to life, they try to arrange a place to live in a dangerous place. However, the appearance of a Russian sniper in the village destroys the usual way of life.
The main roles in the film were played by Viktor Zhdanov (“Volcano”, “Home”, “Numbers”, “Catch Kaidash”) and Volodymyr Yamnenko (“Wild Field”, “Snow”, “Sniff”).

The Russian-language novel “Grey Bees” by Andriy Kurkov was published in 2018 by the Folio publishing house. Later, it was translated into Ukrainian by Kateryna Isayenko. The novel was included in the shortlist of the BBC Book of the Year 2018, and in 2022 won the Medici Prize for the best foreign work.
In December 2019, the premiere of the play based on Kurkov’s book took place in the capital’s Theater on Podol. She still goes to the theater.
