In the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, for the first time in the history of the shrine, a memorial service will be held for its patron and founder – Hetman Ivan Mazepa. The service will be held on June 11, 2023, on All Saints Day, in the All Saints Church, built at the expense of Ivan Mazepa. The memorial service will be held on the occasion of the 325th anniversary of the consecration of the temple. This is reported on the website of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine. “On this day, for the first time in the history of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a memorial service will be held for its patron and founder – Hetman Ivan Mazepa, who was anathema by the Russian Imperial Church during his lifetime for his unwillingness to submit to Muscovy. None of the Ukrainian churches ever recognized the validity of this anathema, and Ukrainians all over the world prayed for his repose. Instead, the Moscow Patriarchate continued to “curse” Mazepa during the time of independent Ukraine, and even after the start of the war in 2014. From now on, historical and spiritual justice will be restored,” the message said.
