8-year-old Nastya from Vinnytsia received burns on 26% of her body while playing near a bonfire. The girl was saved by burn surgeons from two countries at once – Ukraine and Switzerland.

The child was playing with friends near the house. She stood by the fire. The flame from gasoline, which the children poured into the bonfire, instantly spread to the girl’s clothes and burned her legs, reports the First Medical Association of Lviv.

The fire affected 26% of Nastya’s body. At the same time, most burns are deep.

First aid was given to the girl in Vinnytsia. And then they were transported to Lviv to St. Nicholas Hospital.

Burn surgeons immediately began to operate on the child. They cut out the dead tissue and installed a vac system on the affected areas. This is a special device that, with the help of negative pressure, extracts secretions from the wound, dries it and prevents bacteria from multiplying.

Due to the severity of the burns and the lack of necessary conditions and equipment for further fighting for the child’s life and health, the doctors decided to send the little patient abroad – to one of the largest burn centers in Zurich, Switzerland.

This children’s hospital constantly receives the most severe Ukrainian children with thermal injuries.

Lviv burn surgeon Lesya Strelka accompanied Nastusya to Zurich. Together with her Swiss colleagues, she continued to save her little patient.

Transplanted on the girl’s wounds first donor skin, and then her own skin

Transplanted on the girl’s wounds first donor skin, and then her own skin. Now the wounds are already healing, the skin has healed and Nastya feels much better.

Scars will later form at the place of Nastya’s burns. The child will grow, but the skin at the place of burns will not. So that the girl does not suffer all her childhood, her burn scars will need to be polished.
