The government made some changes to the rules for adopting orphans and children deprived of parental care. From now on, they will wait less time for their new families.

About this informs Ministry of Social Policy.

Yes, a family that wants to adopt a child will be able to take it home even before the court verdict. This is possible provided that the family or one of the adopters received a positive opinion from the district state administration or the executive body of the city or district council in the city about the feasibility of adoption and compliance with the interests of the child.

The certificate of completion of courses on how to raise an orphan child is now valid for 2 years. Previously, its term was 1 year.

Prospective adopters, foster parents and guardians will receive it twice as fast. It used to take 10 working days, but now only 5. After the training is completed, the institution that conducted the training will send the certificate by e-mail and call the children’s services.

Children’s services will now be able to find families for children in need of adoption, not only in their city, but also throughout the region. Adoption candidates will receive an invitation to meet when a suitable child becomes available.

Children’s services from different regions will be able to see information about children in need of adoption in other regions.

“More children and more potential adopters will have a chance to meet each other,” – they say in the ministry.

In addition, it has become easier to arrange custody of a child if one of the spouses is in military service. According to the new rules, both spouses must have a health certificate. A person who serves can submit it within 15 calendar days after returning from service.

Godparents will also be able to take custody of the child. However, now with a new requirement – a person must be a godmother or father TO the moment the child acquires the status of an orphan or a child deprived of parental care. In this way, unscrupulous people will not have the opportunity to use this situation for mercantile purposes, the Ministry claims.

Families (families of relatives, acquaintances, as well as family-type foster homes and children’s homes) that will temporarily take in a child will receive financial assistance even if the child does not yet have the status of an orphan or is not deprived of parental care.
