In August 2023, the Sykhiv District Court of Lviv found him guilty of violating the legislation on the prevention of conflicts of interest.

Kovalchuk wrote out bonuses in the amount of over 180,000 hryvnias for himself and his daughter, who also works at the cancer center. For this, he was fined 3,400 hryvnias.

Kovalchuk was removed from his post after the court decision came into force, by which he was found guilty of corruption. Also, NAZK entered the official into the Unified State Register of Corrupt Persons.

Oleh Duda, who was Kovalchuk’s deputy, was appointed acting director of the cancer center. He heads the “European Solidarity” faction in the Lviv Regional Council.
