The history of a military man with the call sign “Sportyk” – from a bodyguard to a sergeant at NSU

Oleksandr with the call sign “Sportyk” defends the country in one of the most combative battalions of the 5th Slobozhan Brigade of NSU. Although he used to work as a bodyguard, today he is a sergeant who has gone through fierce battles.

The National Guard of Ukraine told his story.

Oleksandr does not have such a call sign by chance. He used to do sports professionally – boxing and judo. Was in the junior national team of Ukraine. He also managed to win the title of champion of Ukraine in adult boxing.

Because of this, his peers sometimes joke that he “beats people for money.” But “Sportyk” always answers questions about this with irony.

“Before, I used to fight, because I was professionally engaged in sports and worked as a bodyguard for, let’s say, not poor people. And now I run through forest strips, corn fields and protect the Motherland.”, – he says

He graduated from a technical school with the specialty “Sporty” as an electric welder. But he never worked in this profession. He completed his military service, after which he became a bodyguard.

“There have been dangerous situations, once they tried to shoot our car with a client, another time they planted explosives in my client’s car at the request of a competitor. It was not boring, but the profession is so-so”– says the serviceman.

With the beginning of a full-scale war, Alexander took his family to the border with Poland, and then returned, received a summons and entered the National Guard.

“I don’t regret it at all. After the young fighter’s quick course, we were transferred to Balakleya, we dug in there, I worked as a scout. Together with the SSO fighters, with Omega, we did preliminary reconnaissance, where the orcs’ positions were, where their “eyes” were, where the equipment was traveling to neutralize all this.” – proudly says Sgt.

He had his first encounter near Balakleya, where he covered a SSO sniper. Then, when leaving the gray zone, they encountered an enemy secret and destroyed it. We had to go out under heavy enemy fire – everyone returned unharmed.

However, “Sportik” remembered the battle near Kreminna the most. There, during the assault, the reserve positions had to help. During the battle, it was possible to eliminate 3 enemies and injure 2. But our fighters were also wounded – one had his leg torn off by a grenade, another was wounded in the arm. Brothers were dragged for 2 kilometers.

Sportyk now teaches others tactics and assault actions. But intelligence does not leave. He says that he considers sergeants to be the most important link for saving the lives of others in positions. He is not making plans yet, but is focused on what is now.

“I’m still a bodyguard, it’s just that before I protected one person, and now – the whole country”, – adds the fighter.
