The next day, March 11, the Taras Shevchenko National Award Committee of Ukraine still published a statement naming the 2023 laureates. Then the winners were named only in part of the categories: “Literature”, “Publicism, journalism”, “Literature and art studies”, “Music art” and “Film art”. During this time, the chairman of the committee Yuriy Makarov resigned, followed by the entire committee. In May, Zelenskyi appointed ex-Minister of Culture Yevhen Nyschuk as the head of the committee. On July 28, the president issued a decree with the names of the laureates for 2023 and approved the new composition of the Shevchenko Committee. The new nomination “For contribution to victory”, which caused the scandal, was decided to be awarded next year.
