The Ministry of Education and Science is preparing for a nationwide measurement of “educational gaps” that have arisen against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic and full-scale war. This was reported by First Deputy Minister of Education and Science Andriy Vitrenko in a comment to Ukrinform. According to him, educators are currently considering the issue of educational gaps – how they are defined and measured. This is necessary in order to comprehensively find out the gaps in the knowledge of students in order to compensate for educational gaps. “We are preparing for a nationwide measurement (of the educational results of schoolchildren). We have an educational gap between the competence that a student should master and what he actually knows and is able to do. These are not educational losses, but rather educational gaps,” Andriy Vitrenko emphasized . The Ministry of Education and Culture clarified that they plan to determine educational gaps during the two years of the coronavirus pandemic, when there was distance learning, and during the year of a full-scale war. Vitrenko added that Kyiv already has experience in measuring educational gaps, the relevant study was developed and conducted by the Department of Education of the KMDA. Currently, the Ministry of Education and Culture is negotiating with the World Bank to finance such a study on a national scale. It is planned to be held this year. “This is a huge project, both methodologically large and expensive. We are working with the World Bank to find financing for this project. But we will implement it in any case,” said Andriy Vitrenko. It will be recalled that the educational ombudsman Serhiy Gorbachev emphasized that the subjects missed by schoolchildren due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the full-scale invasion must be identified and compensated.
