The Ministry of Environment has approved a list of trees that cannot be planted in the forest

In Ukraine, the list of alien species of trees, which are prohibited to be planted in forests, has been officially approved. The list includes 13 invasive species, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine. The ministry explains that alien species of trees can change or destroy entire ecosystems. With no natural enemies in new territories, they multiply rapidly, take over space and displace native species from natural landscapes. Photo: alex.stemmer/Depositphotos 13 types of plants prohibited for planting in forests: ailant is the highest; Aralia Manchurian; elm is low; spiky thorn; black walnut; red oak; western frame; ash maple; narrow-leaved olive; paulownia (species and hybrids); common robinia; late cherry; Pennsylvania ash. “From now on, it is forbidden to use these species for the creation and restoration of forests and field protection strips in Ukraine. At the same time, trees from the list planted before the entry into force of the List will not be cut down,” the Ministry of Environment notes. We remind you that planting a tree is a very important and noble thing, but sometimes it can harm the environment, for example, if you choose the wrong type of plant or place to plant it.
