Men can donate whole blood no more than 5 times a year, women – no more than 4 times a year.

This is the optimal number of times so that the body has time to restore the level of erythrocytes and hemoglobin, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine reports.

The human body contains approximately 5-6 liters of blood (8% of body weight). Millions of its cells die every day, and new ones are formed to replace them. The life cycle of an erythrocyte (red blood cell) lasts 120 days, and then it goes to “reutilization” – processing, so that iron from hemoglobin is not lost,

Donating 450 ml of blood is not a big burden for the human body. On the contrary, it is the ability to spend calories lying in a chair.

According to the Ministry of Health, the total volume of blood is restored in a few minutes.

Plasma components are restored the fastest – within 24 hours.

And erythrocytes return to normal in 4-6 weeks. Hemoglobin level – in 6-12 weeks.

The optimal number of times for the body to restore the level of erythrocytes and hemoglobin for men is no more than 5 times a year, for women – no more than 4 times a year.

After all, women irreversibly lose a certain amount of hemoglobin during each menstrual cycle.

The donor does not feel that something is being “restored” in his blood or that something is missing.

But everyone who donates blood can help the body recover.

What is needed for this?

  • drink enough water;
  • eat well: add more iron-rich foods to your diet: liver, groats, spinach, etc.;
