In Ukraine, the list of specialists who can carry out donor blood transfusions has been expanded.

26 medical specialties, mainly surgical, were added to it, the Ministry of Health reported.

As Vasyl Strilka, director of the Department of High-tech Medical Care and Innovations of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, explained, the corresponding changes to the order on qualification characteristics were introduced because of the war in the country.

“Previously, the right to transfuse blood by qualification was provided only for a transfusion doctor and an anesthesiologist. But, for example, there is not always a doctor with such qualifications in the stabilization center.”he added.

The list includes:

  • hematologist;
  • neurosurgeon;
  • cardiac surgeon;
  • traumatologist;
  • a combustiologist (a doctor who specializes in burns);
  • urologist;
  • surgeon;
  • doctors of emergency medicine.

This order is an extension of the authorization of blood transfusion at the pre-hospital stage. This will allow a wide range of doctors who defend the country in the ranks of the Armed Forces to use blood and its components to save soldiers on the front lines.

“Now, blood transfusions at the pre-hospital stage can be performed by those doctors whose qualifications provide for it, as well as people who have undergone appropriate training.”, Dmytro says.
