The Ministry of Health named infections that almost do not respond to antibiotics

In 2050, antibiotic resistance may take up to 10 million lives every year, says First Deputy Minister of Health Serhiy Dubrov.

The doctor told “Ukrainian Pravda. Life” which infections are already almost resistant to antibiotics, and what is the danger in this.

“The most problematic pathogens are these Acinetobacter baumaniathis is Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli and Stylus bacillus. They have the highest level of resistance not only in Ukraine, but also in the whole world.” Dubrov says.

These bacteria can cause a whole range of diseases: from intestinal and urological infections to inflammation of wounds and purulent processes in the body.

“Pneumococcus, the main causative agent of pneumonia, already has 10%-25% resistance even in European countries to synthetic penicillins, which was not the case 5 years ago,” Dubrov adds.

Most often, these pathogens can be “caught” in the intensive care unit. But now it is possible to get infected outside the hospital.

“Escherichia coli (Escherichia coli), Klebsiella pneumoniae (Friedlander’s bacillus) are typical inhabitants of our gastrointestinal tract and representatives of the enterobacteria family. They are no longer sensitive to antibiotics.

Even modern antibiotics, which appeared a few years ago on the pharmaceutical market, are no longer effective against Friedlander’s bacillus.”– says the deputy minister.

We will remind, the World Health Organization also monitors the dynamics of antibiotic resistance in the world. In 2022, a new analysis of the Global Antimicrobial Resistance and Use Surveillance System (GLASS) revealed alarming figures.

The system analyzed average indicators in 76 countries. Escherichia coli of the third generation has 42% resistance to cephalosporins, and Staphylococcus aureus has 35% resistance to methicillin.

The number of drug-resistant fungal infections is also increasing. The emergence and spread of “particular concern” at the WHO multiresistant Candida auris – invasive fungal infection.
