The chief sanitary doctor of Ukraine, Ihor Kuzin, told how the authorities will act in case of cholera detection. From June 1 to the end of September, the epidemic season usually begins in Ukraine, when the cholera vibrio can multiply, Ihor Kuzin said in an interview with the “We – Ukraine” TV channel. Water samples are monitored during this period. In the case of detection of vibrio cholera, the Ministry of Health transmits the information to local authorities, and they make a decision to prohibit the use of the corresponding water body. Also, all Ukrainians who are hospitalized with intestinal infections are checked for cholera. 250-300 thousand people are checked annually. Ihor Kuzin “If a case of cholera is detected, we will begin to understand what a person ate, where he bought food, how it was prepared, where he came from, with whom he was in contact. For example, if a person bought products at the Odessa market, we will check him” – says Igor Kuzin. The chief medical officer also noted that there are hospitals in Ukraine that are ready to provide assistance to such patients. “Currently, 80% of cholera cases in the world are not severe forms that even require hospitalization. Also, the occurrence of a cholera outbreak is 99% dependent on people’s access to safe drinking water. If there is water, there is a high probability that there will not be an outbreak,” – says Ihor Kuzin. We will remind you that information about the danger of a cholera outbreak appeared after the Russians blew up the Kakhovskaya HPP. Earlier, “Kyivvodokanal” denied a fake about the cholera bacillus in the capital’s water. Read also: A cholera-like vibrio was discovered in the Black Sea in Odessa: what makes it dangerous
