In the Kyiv region, an 11-year-old girl and her mother turned to the Obukhiv police because of harassment from the coach of the children’s basketball team. This was reported to the National Police of the Kyiv Region. “A 51-year-old resident of the village of Pidhirtsi, using the trust of his parents, invited an 11-year-old girl to the lake. After inventing his game, the basketball coach lured the schoolgirl to the depths and began groping,” the police said. After moving to the Kyiv region, he applied to the lyceum in Obukhov and offered to coach a children’s girls’ basketball team on a volunteer basis. The “trainer” built a trusting relationship with the victim, law enforcement officers note. Back in May 2023, he called the girl’s mother for the first time and invited her daughter to go to the lakes. The woman wanted to refuse: her daughter did not have a swimsuit, but the husband assured that he would buy one. The “trainer” took the girl to the lake several more times, where he molested her, but she did not tell her mother. During the last trip to the lakes, the girl began to break away from the trainer in the lake when he touched her genitals, and upon returning home, she told her mother. Currently, the law enforcement officers are determining the number of episodes and victims of the “coach’s” actions. It is worth noting that the man is married and is raising his wife’s 10-year-old son. The court has already chosen a preventive measure – house arrest. He faces up to 8 years in prison. The National Police emphasized that the article on molestation of a minor child is difficult. It is also complicated by the fact that the perpetrator was a person who was engaged in raising children (coaching).
