Since the beginning of the year, the police have received almost 244,000 statements and reports regarding domestic violence. This is the most common type of gender-based violence in Ukraine.
According to the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Ivan Vyhivskyi, 76.5% of appeals were received by law enforcement officers from women, 20% from men, and more than 3% from children.
“The war certainly affected all citizens. Constant tension, stress cause aggression and conflicts, and therefore these factors are among those that cause domestic violence.” – noted Ivan Vyhivskyi.
According to him, administrative protocols were drawn up for every second report of domestic violence, and in a third of cases, urgent restraining orders were issued against the perpetrators.

In addition, under Article 126-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (commitment of domestic violence), investigators have initiated more than 2,300 criminal proceedings. Almost 2,000 offenders have already been notified of suspicion.
To prevent and counter domestic violence, the department created 54 specialized units, in which 62 mobile response groups function.
“Also, law enforcement officers monitor compliance with the requirements of measures to temporarily limit the rights of offenders and carry out joint preventive raids with social services in families where domestic violence is committed.”– said Vyhivskyi.
