The National Psychological Association of Ukraine will not verify the facts presented in the investigation about Spartak Subbota, as he is not a member of the union. The president of the National People’s Party Valeriya Paliy told “Ukrainian Pravda. Life” about this. Blogger, popular “psychotherapist” and expert Spartak Subbota was accused of lying about his own education and scientific degrees, as well as sexual contacts with female clients. Psychotherapist Ilya Poludionny conducted the investigation on Saturday, he collected evidence for 7 months. According to Valery Palia, Spartak Subbota is not a member of the National Psychological Association, so they cannot impose any sanctions on him. Spartak Subbota is not a member of the National Psychological Academy. Membership in the NPA is voluntary. A psychologist who wants to join the association must submit an appropriate application, document the acquired professional education and agree to the NPA psychologist’s code of ethics. Currently, 1,500 specialists from all over Ukraine are members of the organization. “Spartak Subota never submitted an application for membership in the NPA. However, in the published investigation there are other figures who are members of the NPA. And we sent a request to our ethics commission, where they will conduct an analysis – whether their behavior violates the standards of the professional community and the code of ethics psychologist of the NPA. We also asked the ethics commission to publicly comment on this situation,” Valeriya Paliy says. According to the NPA president, the behavior of psychologists Vitaly Lunyov and Oleksandra Bilyavska, who are mentioned in the investigation of Ilya Poludyonny, will be checked. The investigation states that Vitaly Lunyov is the scientific supervisor of Spartak Subbota’s dissertation, and the scientific works of Subbota and Bilyavska contain similar fragments. In general, the scandal surrounding Spartak Subbota in the NPA is considered a “cold shower” and teaches to develop critical thinking and not to trust everything that is said on the screens, even if the figure is charismatic. “The investigation reveals many problems at the moment. It is about the regulation of psychological services, and how often the society does not think critically about the so-called opinion leaders,” says Valeriya Paliy. According to the president of the NPA, the market for the provision of psychological services needs some regulation, because currently there are significant gaps in the legislation. Therefore, consumers of psychologists’ services are often not protected. “For example, we do not have a widespread culture of asking for diplomas from psychologists. There are no mandatory open registers. Yes, we can condemn and do ethical analysis. However, these are very limited sanctions,” she says. We will remind, the blogger Spartak Subbota himself called the conclusions of the investigation “incorrect” and said that he will protect his audience and loved ones from hate.
