The petition regarding the dismissal of Volodymyr Bugrov, rector of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, received 25,000 votes.
Now it will be considered by the President of Ukraine, it is said on the website of the Office of the President.
A petition with a call to terminate the contract with Bugrov “due to theft of state property, corruption and immoral behavior” was published on January 23.
Its author is Maksym Lutsik, who in the motivational part of the petition called himself a graduate of KNU that year. He noted that the scandals related to the university management “cast a shadow on the reputation of his alma mater and undermine trust in the higher education system.”
Lutsyk refers to the investigation into embezzlement and manipulation of funds allocated for the repair of shelters and food for cadets.
In particular, it is about material Yuriy Nikolov, journalist of the “Our Money” project. It claims that two metropolitan universities, including KNU, signed contracts with the Ministry of Defense for military food without open bidding.
Their rates are significantly higher than those offered by other providers. KNU asks for 152.7 hryvnias for food for one person, while another company – 105.98 hryvnias.
Volodymyr Bugrov addressed to the President’s Office with a request to withdraw the petition for his dismissal. According to the rector, she violates his constitutional rights because she will vote for “a criminal without a court decision.”
We will remind, at the end of February, journalists found to Bugrov, an apartment in an elite residential complex of Kyiv, worth more than 3.5 million hryvnias. The analysis of the declarations showed that the rector did not have the funds to purchase such housing, because during 2020 his family earned 1.3 million hryvnias.
Previously Bugrov got into a scandal because of his alleged sexual relations with female students. However, the rector himself called the evidence of this falsified.
