The Russian Federation is ideologically re-educating thousands of Ukrainian children in camps – Yale University

On the territory of Russia and in the occupied Crimea, there is a network of camps where Ukrainian children, aged from four months to 17 years, are engaged in ideological re-education and Russification. This is stated in a study conducted at Yale University (USA) as part of the Conflict Observatory project Researchers discovered 43 such institutions. Since February 24, 2022, more than 6,000 Ukrainian children and adolescents have entered these camps. However, the actual figure may be much higher. The researchers noted that in most of these institutions they engage in pro-Russian re-education, in some they conduct military training of children or suspend their return to their parents in Ukraine. The study states that 12 camps are located on the coast of the Black Sea, 7 in the occupied Crimea, 10 – not far from large Russian cities – Moscow, Kazan and Yekaterinburg, as well as in Siberia and the Far East. Some parents admitted to the researchers that their sons and daughters were placed in such institutions without their consent. Also, based on the findings of Yale University, 20 children from these camps were placed in families in the Moscow region and enrolled in local schools. The Yale human rights group discovered two facilities in Russia related to the deportation of orphaned children from Ukraine: a psychiatric hospital and a family center. “The facts in the research report constitute a violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention,” emphasizes one of the authors of the study, Nathaniel Raymond. As Alyona Lunyova, director of advocacy at the ZMINA Human Rights Center, noted earlier, the purpose of such actions of the Russian Federation is the genocide of the Ukrainian people and nation. We will remind you that 16 children aged 7-16 from the Kherson region, whom the occupiers deported to Russia and the occupied Crimea, allegedly to “recreation” camps, will be returned to Ukraine.
