From April to September 2022, the village of Kamianka in the Kharkiv region was under occupation. According to local residents, the Russians then mass-murdered people, shot dogs and destroyed all livestock. Despite the devastation, the difficult humanitarian situation and other problems, local residents are returning home, some after being forcibly evicted by the Russians. Kamian residents told about the events that happened during the occupation for the “Ukrainian Witness” project. In the village, the Russians left behind ruins and countless mine petals. Another resident of Kamianka, Mykola, said that he lived under occupation until March 30. “Then the Russians forcibly took us all to Izyum. No one explained why,” the man said. A local resident named Oleksandr said that when the Russians came, he was sitting in the cellar. His dog was shot right in the kitchen because he was trying to keep the invaders out. Practical residents of Kamianka use all this for repair and reconstruction,” the project notes.
