The documentary film “A House Made of Splinters” (A House Made of Splinters), which was included in the list of nominees for the Oscar 2023, will be released in all Ukraine. Azad Safarov, the second director and line producer, shared the news about the wide release of the documentary, which will represent Ukraine at the Oscars 2023, on Facebook. It will be known on March 12 whether director Simon Lereng Vilmont’s film about children from a shelter in Donbas will receive an Oscar statuette in the Best Documentary category. Ukrainian cinemas will start showing “House of Chips” a few days before – on March 9. According to Safarov, the film can be seen in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Odessa and other cities of Ukraine. The film “House of Chips” tells the story of Ukrainian children who have entered a shelter located near the front line in the east of the country, as well as the teachers who work in the orphanage and create a safe space for the children. They spend some time in a home for abandoned children, and then either return to their parents, or end up in a boarding school or a foster family. The director is Simon Lereng Vilmont, known for another film about children in Donbas, “The Distant Barking of Dogs.” The tape was created as a co-production between Denmark, Ukraine, Sweden and Finland. The work on the tape continued in Donbas for more than two years. In January 2022, the film received an award at the main independent film festival Sundance. It was awarded for Best Director’s work in the World Cinema Documentary Competition. Read also: The film about Mariupol received an award at the Sundance 2023 festival
