“Old Lion Publishing House” became the best children’s publishing house of the year in the Europe category at the 60th Bologna Children’s Book Fair. It started in Italy on March 6 and will continue until March 9. The victory of Lviv publishers and five more publishers from different countries of the world was announced on the official website of the fair. Bologna prize best children’s publishers of the year (Bologna prize best children’s publishers of the year) was founded in 2013 by the Bologna Children’s Book Fair together with the Italian Publishers Association (AIE) and the International Publishers Association (IPA). This is the largest and most influential world award for publishers of children’s literature. The award is presented to the best publishers in nominations from six geographic regions. Maryana Savka, editor-in-chief and co-founder of Stary Lev Publishing House, shared the good news from Bologna on Facebook. “It’s like an Oscar, but in the world of children’s books, it’s like a Nobel, but for publishers. It’s an incredible achievement, an achievement that we’ve been working towards for the past ten years, systematically representing ourselves, Ukraine, Ukrainian authors and illustrators in the world and on the international market rights. We are happy that this year we managed not only to present Ukraine at world-level events, to meet with publishing colleagues from other countries, but also to win such an important victory for us and our country!”, commented the victory in VSL. For example, in January of this year, the silent book “Yellow Butterfly” by Oleksandr Shatokhin became one of the winners of the annual competition “Best Book Design”, organized by “Book Arsenal” with the support of the Frankfurt Book Fair. VSL books, illustrated by the “Agrafka” creative workshop, won the distinction of the International Children’s Book Fair in Bologna (2014 and 2015), the Bologna Ragazzi Award 2018 and other prestigious awards.
