As of November 6, an outbreak of viral hepatitis A (Botkin’s disease) was recorded only in Vinnytsia.

There are isolated cases of hepatitis A in the Ternopil (1), Zakarpattia (11) and Dnipropetrovsk (3) regions, the Public Health Center and the Ministry of Health reported.

Also, during October, there were 12 cases of hepatitis A in Ivano-Frankivsk region.

According to the results of epidemic investigations, experts did not establish an epidemic connection between these cases in different regions.

And an outbreak of an infectious disease is several diseases of an infectious disease, connected to each other by a common source and (or) factor of transmission of infection, says the Central Health Service.

Currently, experts are studying the source of infection and conducting an analysis of people’s contact circle.

In the period from October 17 to November 6, 245 cases of viral hepatitis A were laboratory confirmed in the Vinnytsia region.

In particular, 182 people were admitted to hospitals, 128 were treated and discharged, and another 54 remain in medical institutions.

The Ministry of Health says that due to the outbreak of the disease in Vinnytsia region, a temporary ban on fairs was introduced and control over cleaning and disinfection of public transport and compliance with sanitary and hygienic requirements in markets was strengthened.

Additional checks were also carried out in the region at enterprises whose work is related to public service and food products.

During the investigation of the outbreak, epidemiologists simultaneously work out all possible assumptions about the likely sources of infection.

Almost 80% of workers in epidemically dangerous types of production were examined by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in the region. This work should be completed this week. According to preliminary results, no common source of infection was found“, said Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine, Chief State Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin.

Vaccination of people in contact with patients and medical workers is currently being carried out in Vinnytsia.

Ihor Kuzin emphasized that the number of both hospitalized and new cases in the Vinnytsia region is decreasing, which indicates the effectiveness of anti-epidemic measures and control over the outbreak.

In Vinnytsia, 597 people have already been vaccinated against viral hepatitis A, including 549 doctors and 48 contact persons (relatives and relatives of patients with a confirmed diagnosis).

We will remind you that 243 cases of hepatitis A were laboratory confirmed on the third of November in Vinnytsia region.

The outbreak was first recorded on October 24, when 60 infected people were hospitalized.
