The Ukrainian psychologist complained that the organizer and trainer from Russia will be present at the week-long Erasmus+ program in Austria, dedicated to the mental health of Ukrainians. Halyna Shtogryn, regional expert of the “Mental Health for Ukraine” portal, reported on the incident. The woman wanted to take part in the week-long program “A Path to Self Care”, which will take place on November 8-16 in Austria. The public organization NGO “Vzayemopomich” was looking for participants. However, Galina refused when she learned that one of the organizers is a Russian woman who has been living in Poland for several years. One of the trainers is also of Russian origin. “I asked whether there are Russian or Belarusian participants in the program. There are no participants, but one of the organizers of this program is the Russian Vira Horyunova. For me, this is some kind of wild situation when we talk about people’s mental health. I work with young people from mental disorders, I have experience and I also want to get some tools on how to cope with stress, and it turns out that the representative of the terrorist country will tell the story,” Galina said in a comment to UP. Life. The program “A Path to Self Care” is designed to teach Ukrainian youth workers to take care of themselves and overcome stress. However, Halyna believes that coaches of Russian origin can be a trigger for participants. “Even if she left 20 years ago, I am not sure that I would want to deal with any representative of anything related to Russia in general. And I, as a participant, have the right to know about it. If a person recently left Russia, then I have a question, there is still so much of this Russia left in her,” says the girl. Halyna refused to participate in the program. “How can you make a program for Ukrainians about their mental recovery, when the Russians will teach it for a week in a row? If it is some kind of horizontal relationship, when I am a participant and there is another participant from Russia next to me, I can somehow protect myself from him. But this is a coach who teaches you. When I’m literally driving out from under a massive drone attack, and I’m listening to a Russian woman telling me how to take care of my mental health,” says Halyna. Now she demands that the Erasmus+ training organizers reconsider the possibility of cooperation with the Russians, or at least notify the participants about it. At the same time, the public organization “Vzayemopomich”, which informed Galina about the participation of the Russian trainer, assures that they are not co-organizers of the training. “We are not the organizers of the project, we were invited as a sending partner organization, like all other organizations, except the Austrian one. We are not responsible for the content of the project itself, nor for the financial component…” – says the message shared by Galina . The NGO explained that they do not justify the appearance of a trainer from Russia in the project, but at this stage they cannot refuse participation.
