Ukrainian polar explorers from the station “Akademik Vernadskyi” showed a video with a penguin “riding” on its stomach.

It was made by the meteorologist of the 28th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition Oleksandr Poluden.

“Breaking into the new year fast and determined, like this penguin Adele”, – says the caption to the video.

According to polar explorers, this way of moving on land is common for penguins. This is how they try to save energy, so they prefer unhurried and slow movements.

“When the terrain allows for a “ride”, they lie down on their stomachs, push off with their wings and hind legs and run. They can accelerate up to 3-6 km/h,” – polar explorers explain.

Adélie is one of the most common penguin species. They live on the entire coast of Antarctica and the Antarctic islands.

It will be recalled that Ukrainian polar explorers from the station “Akademik Vernadskyi” showed an unusual “swing” for penguins in the Antarctic.
