Soviet and Russian television journalist Bella Kurkova died in St. Petersburg at the age of 88. This was reported, in particular, by the RIA “Novosti” agency with reference to the deputy director of the “Kultura” TV channel Alexander Efimovich. According to him, the funeral and farewell will take place on Saturday, however, there is no exact information about the place and time yet.
The publication “Fontanka” writes with reference to sources that Bella Kurkova died on Thursday night in the hospital. She was seriously ill.
Bella Kurkova graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of the Leningrad University in 1959. After her studies, she worked for three years as a correspondent for the newspaper “Sovetskaya Chukotka”, in 1962 she joined the children’s publication “Leninskie Iskra”. Then her career began on Leningrad television, notes “Fontanka”.
Kurkova was the host of the LenTV program “The Fifth Wheel”, in 1991 she became the director of the local directorate of VGTRK, in 2000 she took the position of director of the St. Petersburg directorate of the “Kultura” channel. Later, she received the position of deputy editor-in-chief for work with St. Petersburg of the main editorial office of the “Kultura” TV channel.
The journalist was awarded the Order of Friendship, she also has two orders “For Merit to the Fatherland”. She is an honored worker of culture of the RSFSR. Over 20 years, Kurkova has created two dozen multi-series films about St. Petersburg. In total, her filmography includes more than 200 documentaries.
