We are not looking for a dialogue with Tkachenko, but we are demanding his resignation

On June 23, a picket was held at the Book Arsenal against the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko. The participants of the action called on the minister to fulfill the demand of the public, for which Ukrainians voted by signing the corresponding petition, and to resign. The minister approached the protesters directly at the rally and offered a dialogue. And later invited them to the Ministry of Culture on Monday, June 26, to continue this dialogue. The organizer of the protest, Sasha Bychenko, explains why he does not consider it necessary to go to the minister for a conversation. He adds the opinions of other participants of the action to his text. *** For the first time in my life, I organized a protest. On Friday, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Tkachenko was announced as a participant in one of the discussions at the Book Arsenal. It makes no sense to list all the claims and questions to the ministry and the minister from the community of the cultural sector and creative industries. This list is so long, so many articles have been written and so many videos have been shot that listing even the basic facts is not a task for one post. He writes: I is always open to dialogue with young people. And this is such brazen arrogance! It’s as if female students came to stand with posters. But these are not female students, they are people from the creative and cultural sphere: they are museum workers, they are artists, they are film workers” Anya Perepelitsa, participant of the picket, director The fact that the first petition for his resignation was signed by more than 25,000 citizens is an eloquent marker of the community’s attitude towards the minister. This is despite all the technical difficulties with the petition site. If you tried to sign, you know what I’m talking about. The first petition was effectively ignored, and someone created a second one, which received a quarter of the required number of votes on the first day. So we gathered as a small but active team with the goal of drawing attention to the problem. It was important for us to hold the event peacefully, calmly and culturally, without disrupting the event itself and without disturbing the visitors. We succeeded 100 percent in this, especially considering the limited possibility of protests during martial law. We came to declare that our Minister of Culture has no place in this position. About it was more than just a petition, it is a certain form of dialogue. Because this is exactly an imitation, and I do not believe in any dialogue in this case. He will play only on Tkachenko. And we – civil society – have other ways of public dialogue, which we use. Banish half of the Tweeters who criticize the minister (even those who expressed themselves quite decently and without swearing) on ​​the official pages, close the comments under the posts on Facebook and Instagramm in order to collect and skillfully psychologically manipulate in the conversation, and then write positive releases about openness to the conversation – this is a joke. I especially laughed at the way Tkachenko compared our action with “baseless accusations of Stalin’s and Putin’s regimes” and hinted at “some puppeteers.” If someone wants to send me a package of buckwheat (unroasted, please) or compensate the 100 hryvnias spent on a marker and Whatman, please. “Tkachenko met face-to-face with the so-called “bots”, from whom he is blocked in social networks with bans and no opportunity to comment. With arrogant self-confidence, imitating “openness”, “transparency” and “democracy”, he offered to talk. I don’t expect quick results here and now. Perhaps there will be a third and a tenth petition, perhaps there will be many more such actions.
