On January 23, Russian rocket fire killed ten people in Kharkiv. Among them: a student and graduate of the National Aerospace University named after M.E. Zhukovsky “KHAI”, the 8-year-old daughter and wife of a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the couple who were the last to be rescued from the rubble of the bombed five-story building.

“The morning of January 23 turned into a tragedy for two students of our university. Kostyantyn Kobzev and Kateryna Khoroschak – students of group number 353 of the Faculty of Aircraft Control Systems, were in the building hit by a rocket during enemy fire.

Konstantin was able to be pulled out from under the rubble, but he received serious injuries and burns and is now in the hospital. Kateryna died at the age of 21“, the post of the university reads.

In the commentary of “UP. Life” in the press service of “KHAI” they said that Kateryna and Konstantin were a couple – they lived together in a house that was damaged by Russian shelling. Both studied in the 4th year and were conscientious students.

“Konstantin is currently in serious condition, it is known that his leg was amputated. His father has been fighting at the front for the second year, so all care for his son fell on his mother’s shoulders, she is constantly with him in the hospital“, the press service added.

Another dead person is Yevhen Kostyukov, a graduate of the 318th group of the Khai.

“With the help of a DNA examination, it was possible to establish the name of the man whose body fragments were found after the repeated strikes of the Russian Federation in the Kharkiv district of Kyiv on January 23. He turned out to be Yevhen Kostyukov, a graduate of the 318th group of the Khai Army“, it is reported on the website of the university.

It is noted that Yevgeny worked as a taxi driver: after the first blow of the Russian Federation, he helped neighbors to board up windows, and before the second one, he went out into the yard and probably left the garage in his car. Serhiy Bolvinov, the head of the investigative department of the National Police in the Kharkiv region, said that the deceased was 38 years old.

“They were able to find out who he was only after a DNA examination. It was established that all 15 fragments belong to one person. He lived with his mother, and the woman said she lost contact with her son immediately after the attack. Her samples matched the deceased’s DNA“, he added.

Among the dead is the 8-year-old daughter and wife of the Kharkiv Legion XIII rugby club player Volodymyr Mashkin, the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported.

“Volodymyr Mashkin is a master of sports in rugby and rugby league, a player of the national team of Ukraine. Currently, Volodymyr himself is serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He volunteered for the army at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. His daughter and wife were killed when a rocket hit their house“, – the post says.

57-year-old Valery Konchenkov and 56-year-old Yulia Breynina were the last to be rescued from the rubble of the bombed five-story building. Two of their dead dogs lay next to them. The couple were members of the Kennel Club of Ukraine.

“The bodies of KSU members Yulia Breynina and Valery Konchenkova were recovered from the rubble of the completely destroyed part of the building where they lived. Their dachshunds died with their owners“, says the KSU post.

Olga Senkina, a friend of the deceased couple, wrote:

“I don’t know how to write obituaries, only this: they lived long and happily and died in one day. Only this is not a fairy tale – they were killed by Russia!”

It will be recalled that January 25 was declared a day of mourning in Kharkiv for those who died as a result of the Russian missile attacks that the city suffered on January 23.
